Hear our humble prayer, O God,
\nfor our friends the animals,
\nespecially for animals who are suffering;
\nfor animals that are overworked,
\nunderfed and cruelly treated;
\nfor all wistful creatures in captivity
\nthat beat their wings against bars;
\nfor any that are hunted or lost or deserted
\nor frightened or hungry;
\nfor all that must be put to death.
\nWe entreat for them all Thy mercy and pity,
\nand for those who deal with them
\nwe ask a heart of compassion
\nand gentle hands and kindly words.
\nMake us, ourselves, to be true friends to animals,
\nand so to share the blessings of the merciful.<\/p>\n
