Sixth Day of Novena to Saint Joseph- Feast of Sts. Nereus and Companions

Saint Joseph, most just, most chaste, most prudent, most valiant, most obedient and most faithful- pray for us.

Saints Nereus and Achilleus were in the military of Rome when they were converted to Christ and threw down their weapons and literally ran to a new life as Catholics.  They, who once were part of the persecution of Christians, now were persecuted themselves, all for the love of Christ.  They were martyred, along with many of their companions- Flavia Domitilla, the great-niece of Emperor Domitian, among them, along with Saint Pancratius.  I have a special love for Saint Pancratius, as my childhood parish was named after this great martyr.  It was also in that church that I first experienced not only the love of Christ in His Church, but the great sadness that Vatican II brought about in turning it into a Protestant meeting house.  What we have lost!  God have mercy on us all.

Saints Nereus, Achilleus, Domitilla, Pancratius, and all thou holy martyrs, pray for all those in the military throughout the world that they may always see God as their true authority and obey God in all their actions. Amen.
