Today is the Feast of the Precious Blood of Jesus, Our Dear Lord and Saviour. July is also dedicated to His Precious Blood. Like His Most Sacred Heart, the Precious Blood of Jesus is a magnificent symbol of His undying Love for you and me, for all of mankind.
The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is much, much more than the Protestant commemoration of what they confuse about the Last Supper. It is truly the un-bloody sacrifice of Jesus on Calvary made present in this time and place through the apostolate of the Sacred Priesthood, wherein a true, Catholic priest brings Christ Himself down upon the altar, in His Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity, under the appearance of bread and wine.
In the London Museum there is an old painting of three personages, Martin Luther, John Calvin and Jesus Christ. In the hands of each is painted a chalice and host. Under Martin Luther is painted the words, “This is a symbol of his body and blood.” Under the figure of John Calvin are the words, “These are emblems of his body and blood.” Under the Lord Jesus Christ, (wearing traditional, Catholic vestments) are the words: “This Is My Body and This Is My Blood.”
“Neither by the blood of goats or of calves, but by His Own Blood, entered once into the Holies, having obtained eternal redemption. For if the blood of goats and of oxen, and the ashes of a heifer, being sprinkled, sanctify such as are defiled, to the cleansing of the flesh: How much more shall the Blood of Christ, Who by the Holy Ghost offered Himself unspotted unto God, cleanse our conscience from dead works, to serve the Living God? Therefore He is the Mediator of the New Testament: that by means of His death for the redemption of those transgressions which were under the former testament, they that are called may receive the promise of eternal inheritance.” -Hebrews 9: 12-15
MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD OF JESUS, CLEANSE US OF ALL SIN! MOST SACRED HEART OF JESUS, HAVE MERCY UPON US! SORROWFUL AND IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY, PRAY FOR US WHO HAVE RECOURSE TO THEE! AMEN.
