Feast of the Holy Guardian Angels, October 2nd., 2012

Oh, Guardian Angel- my helper from above. Oh, Guardian Angel, protect me with thy love! Oh, Angel holy, with wings so shiny bright; Keep me, guide me always, to think and do what’s right.
Oh, Guardian Angel- from heaven thou didst come. Oh, Guardian Angel, to God’s love I’ll succumb. Oh, Wondrous Spirit, defend me all my days. Lead me to our Precious Lord; our Light, our Hope, our Way
Please listen Angel, and hearken to my prayer! When my life is ended, my soul is in thy care. Then fly me to Heaven; to meet our dearest Lord. Then my friend, we’ll sing again, His praise forevermore!

My Dear Friends,

How I love October! It has so many marvelous feast days:
The Holy Guardian Angels
St. Theresa of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face, (St. Theresa of the Roses)
St. Francis of Assisi
Our Lady, Queen of the Most Holy Rosary
St. Luke
Sts. Simon and Jude Thaddeus
The Divine Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary
St. Rafael, Archangel
The Kingship of Jesus Christ, and
The Vigil of All Saints

What a month! Also, there are others in the month, as well. Every day that we live there is something wonderful to celebrate if we keep our minds upon God and His love for us. God loves you with an everlasting love. He, Who has spread the stars across the sky and knows each by name, calls you and me to be one with Him and to live forever in joy and bliss. Never forget the great heritage that is yours, O friend of God! Return His love, even a little and see how much He wants to reward and bless you.

When one is disabled things become clearer. Life comes into sharper focus and we concentrate on the needful and let go of many things that we thought were important but were only keeping us from a fuller life.

Christ came that we might have life, and that, more abundantly. The great Son of Mary gives to all of us our own Guardian Angel; Who takes care of us, (as far as we will allow him/her!) from the moment we are born till the moment we die and enter into eternity. Do not forget so marvelous a gift! Speak to your Angel daily. Ask him to protect your soul as well as your body. Our Blessed Lord said that the Guardian Angels of children behold the Face of God! The implication being, of course, that as we grow older we fall into sin and this keeps our angels from looking directly at the good God. How wonderful to live a life in which our angels could keep gazing upon the Beatific Vision! Think on all these things. The poem at the beginning of this column are the words to a song I composed when I was a teenager. The following is a prayer you can say daily to your Guardian Angel.

ANGEL OF GOD, MY GUARDIAN DEAR
TO WHOM GOD’S LOVE COMMITS ME HERE
EVER THIS DAY BE AT MY SIDE
TO LIGHT, TO GUARD, TO RULE, TO GUIDE! AMEN

I send all of you my priestly blessing+ Please pray for me.
